Banasur Dam
There is a beautiful Banasur Sagar Dam situated in the lap of Banasur Hills in Wayanad district. Banasur Dam is the largest earthen dam in the country and the second-largest dam in Asia. The view of the huge reservoir from the top of the dam is spectacular. Here you can enjoy adventures like speed boating, and trekking. The view of Banasur Lake from the top of the hill is mesmerizing.
Edakkal Caves
They are famous all over India for their pictorial depictions, the evidence of which is believed to be from 6000 BC. To reach the hollow, one needs to trek through Ambukutty Mala. It will take you about 45 minutes to trek the hill and you can visit these historical caves. Inside the cave, you will see two rooms. The lower chamber is 18 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 10 feet high and the upper chamber is 96 feet long, 22 feet wide, and 18 feet high. You can see animal figures and objects used by humans on the walls of these caves. These carvings provide living testimony to a very enlightened society that lived in the pre-historic era. Edakkal caves have attracted the attention of archaeologists and students of history from all over the world.
Suchipara Falls
If you have set out to visit Wayanad and if you have not visited Suchipara Waterfall, then what have you visited? In Wayanad, it is also known as Sentinel Rock Falls. Suchipara Waterfall falls from about 200 meters high rock. Many tourists also take swimming and bathing here. Wildlife Sanctuary
Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala which attracts tourists. Chembra Peak
Located close to Meppadi and just 8 km south of Kalpetta, Chembara Peak is the highest peak of the Wayanad Hill Range, standing at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. Chembara Peak offers a panoramic view not only of the entire Wayanad district but also of a large part of Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Nilgiris districts. Most of the tourists come here to see the lush greenery surrounding it and the famous heart-shaped lake.
Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary
It is said that there are many such animals in this Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary which you hardly get to see anywhere today. To visit this Wildlife Sanctuary, you have to hire a vehicle which is provided by the officials of Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary themselves. You can see many such animals of rare species here. Kuruwa Island
A nice blend of different natural colors makes Kuruva Island one of the most beautiful places to visit in Wayanad, Kerala. The Kabini River, an east-flowing river in Kerala, has a protected river delta with many islands in between. In which you will get to see the honey population of some rare species of flora and fauna.
