Whenever we have to travel to any place, we choose the vehicle as per our convenience. Like- some people like to go by their car, some by train and many people also travel by flight. If we talk about air travel, then the first advantage of traveling by it is saving time. While it takes you more time to travel by bus, train etc., you can complete your journey in very less time by flight, but amidst all this, do you know that if your bag gets damaged during the flight journey, then how can you get compensation? Probably not, then you can know about it here. So let's know about this and the rules related to it...
Know the rules related to bags
If you look, you will find that there is a rule regarding bags in the flight. Under this rule, you have to keep the big bag in the luggage section. Then you get this bag back after the flight lands. Whereas, you can take the smaller bag with you in the cabin. The weight is fixed for both these bags.
Many times such cases come to the fore in which it is seen that the bags kept in the luggage section are not maintained properly due to which the bags get damaged. In such a situation, the bags of the passengers get damaged due to which apart from their bags, the stuff kept inside also gets damaged. One such recent case happened recently with Rani Rampan, a member of the Indian hockey team, in which her bag got damaged.
Rani, a member of the hockey team, told her thing on social media and conveyed it to the airlines company. In such a situation, it becomes important for you to know that if ever this happens to your bag while traveling in a flight, then what should you do. First of all, know that you can take compensation for this.
How much compensation can you take?
Actually, according to the rules of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, if a passenger's bag gets damaged, then the airline company has to pay compensation of up to Rs 20 thousand to the passenger. Just keep in mind that for domestic flights, you have to lodge a complaint within 24 hours of the flight landing.
Passengers traveling by international flights have to lodge their complaint within 8 days of landing. If the airline company refuses to take responsibility for the loss of your bag or does not give compensation etc. then you can contact the Civil Aviation Authority i.e. CAA and put forward your point.
