Mahaparinirvana Temple in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, is another sacred pilgrimage site dedicated to Buddha. The temple is popular among locals and foreigners alike due to its beautiful architecture and brilliant work in red sandstone. Swami Haribala, one of the great followers of Buddha, built this temple here. A huge 6.10-meter tall statue of Gautam Buddha was unearthed here during archaeological excavations (1876). This statue, made by cutting the sandstone of Chunar, is said to be from the 5th century. This idol of Lord Buddha is lying on its straight side. Dhamek Stupa
Another place associated with Lord Gautam Buddha is Dhamek Stupa which is located in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh. The journey from Varanasi to here can be covered in approximately 13 km. This stupa dedicated to Buddha was built by Emperor Ashoka. A large quantity of bricks and stones were used to build this monument. The height of this stupa is 43.6 meters. Golden Pagoda Temple, Arunachal Pradesh
