The ghats of Vrindavan also tell the story of Krishna's pastimes. However, most of the 38 ghats in Vrindavan which used to describe the Lord's pastimes have lost their existence. The remaining ghats are struggling for their existence. Today, in this episode, we are going to tell you about some of the major ghats of Vrindavan, where visiting will make your journey enjoyable. Let's know about these ghats...
Keshi Ghat
Let us tell you that Keshi Ghat is located in the north-west direction of Vrindavan and near Bhramar Ghat. At present, this Ghat is in the form of the main Ghat of the city and can save its existence. According to the legend associated with this, Kansa sent a demon named Keshi to kill Lord Krishna, who reached the banks of the Yamuna in the form of a horse. But Lord Krishna recognized him and killed him. After this incident, the name of this Ghat got changed to Keshi Ghat. It is believed that doing Pind Daan here gives results similar to those done in Gaya.
Kaliya Mardan Ghat
When Lord Krishna was playing with his friends on the banks of the Yamuna, his ball reached the Yamuna. At that time, Kaliya Nag had poisoned the Yamuna water in the Yamuna. No one used to enter Yamuna here. God had to do his Leela. Jumped into the Yamuna on the pretext of bringing the ball. There was a stir among the friends. Mother Yashoda and Nandbaba were restless. But in no time, Lord Krishna forced Kaliya to go away from Yamuna by killing him and came out of Yamuna dancing on the hood of Kaliya Nag. Since then this ghat has been named Kaliya Mardan Ghat. It is situated about half a mile north of Varah Ghat. This ghat was built by Holkar Rao.
Chir Ghat
The Chir Ghat located in Vrindavan is symbolic of Lord Krishna's pastime of stealing rags. According to beliefs, Lord Krishna had stolen the clothes of the gopis on this ghat of Yamuna river. It is said that with this leela, the Lord wanted to give a message to the Gopis not to bathe in the river without wearing clothes. According to belief, bathing in the river without wearing clothes causes Varun Dosh. At the same time, the Nritya Gopal temple of Lord Krishna is also present on the banks of Chir Ghat.
Dhir Sameer Ghat
Dheer Sameer Ghat is situated in the east direction of Kesighat. According to the beliefs here, many pastimes of Vrinda Devi are mentioned here. So right here, Vrinda Devi fainted seeing Shri Krishna's distraught yearning for Radha. Seeing the eagerness of Lord Shri Krishna, Radha ji also immediately came with Vrinda Devi, after which the friend became happy to see the beloved-beloved meeting. It is said that this is why this ghat was named Dheer Sameer.
Suraj Ghat
This Ghat is known as Dwadash or Aditya Ghat. Shri Krishna started feeling cold after Kaliya Nag Daman. Then Lord Suryadev gave warmth to Shri Krishna with intense heat. Then Shri Krishna got some heat and he started sweating. Here the sweat of Shri Krishna got mixed in the Yamuna. Since then it is believed that all the sins of those who bathe at this ghat are destroyed. Five hundred years ago, Sanatan Goswami stayed on this mound. Used to serve Madan Mohan ji. The temple is still built on this Aditya mound.
Bihar Ghat
Bihar Ghat of Vrindavan is also believed to be the witness of many pastimes of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Krishna along with his elder brother Balram and other cowherds used to sit on this ghat and have food while grazing cows. At the same time, Krishna also created many pastimes on the banks of this ghat.
Yugal ghat
Yugal Ghat is situated to the north of Suraj Ghat. Stayed on this Ghat. The ancient temple of Yugal Bihari is lying without a spire. There is a temple of Jugal Kishore on one side near Keshi Ghat. It is believed that here the gopis sang leela out of love for God, hence the name of this ghat was Yugal Ghat. The Yugal Bihari Temple located here was built in 1680 by King Pratapaditya's uncle Basant Rai. The construction of this Ghat is also mentioned in the name of Haridas and Govind Das Thakur in Grouse's book.
Govind Ghat
Govind Ghat of Vrindavan is famous all over the world for its Maharas. According to mythological stories, Lord Krishna appeared at this ghat when the Gopis organized the Maharas. After this Ghat came to be known as Govind Ghat. Even today, Raas Leelas are performed at this ghat throughout the year.
Vanshivat Ghat
Yamuna edge The Ghat on the river is known as Vansighat. It is said that the land on which Lord Krishna performed Maharas with Radha ji and Gopis is Vanshivat Ghat. Since Radhaji and the gopis kept performing maharas throughout the night, mesmerized by the sounds emanating from the Lord's flute, because of this it is said that Vanshivat is still singing the saga of Lord's maharas.
Pani ghat
The name of this Ghat is Pani Ghat. Due to linguistic corruption, it is now known as Pani Ghat. It is mentioned that once the gopis were going across the Yamuna to feed Durvasa Muni. When the Gopis asked Shri Krishna the way to cross the Yamuna, the Lord said to tell the Yamuna that we have followed unbroken celibacy, so give way with the power of that penance. The gopis prayed like this while laughing and Yamunaji became empty, the gopis went across. When the gopis came back in the evening, they questioned Durvasa Muni. After the knowledge told by Muni, the gopis returned again and Yamuna also came in her form. Since then this ghat has been named Pani Ghat.
