Kathgodam is a suburb of Haldwani City in the Nainital district of the Kumaon division of Uttarakhand state. Kathgodam has historically been called the Gate of Kumaon. This town is situated in the lower part of the mountain, a few kilometers away from Haldwani city of Uttarakhand, surrounded by forests, this small village where "Kath" means wood godown, Chauhan Pata got its name as Kathgodam. But now there is neither wood nor its godowns left here. Big buildings have come up everywhere. Gaula River
The Gaula River is a river flowing in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is approximately 500 km (310 mi) long. It is also known as Kichha. The river rises from Saat Tal in the state of Uttarakhand and joins the Ramganga River 15 km (9.3 mi) northwest of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. The origin of this river is from the sources of Bhidapani, the high ranges of the Mornaula-city gate. Sheetla Devi Temple and Kalichaud Temple

Kathgodam Railway Station is the major last railway station of North India from where trains run for various cities. Apart from being the last railway station, Kathgodam Railway Station is also the main route to Nainital and the mountainous regions of the Himalayas, hence it is also called the gateway to Kumaon Mandal. Taxis are available from Kathgodam Railway Station to various major places in Uttarakhand.

By Road: Kathgodam is situated on National Highway-87, direct bus services are available from Ghaziabad, Delhi, Nainital, and Haldwani to Kathgodam. Kathgodam is situated at a distance of about 8 kilometers from Haldwani.
