The doors of Banshi Narayan temple located in Chamoli are open for devotees only on the day of Rakshabandhan. On this day, as long as there is sunlight, the temple remains open. Story related to Banshi Narayan temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Vishnu first came to this place after getting freedom from his Vamana avatar. Then Dev Rishi Narada worshiped Lord Narayan here. Therefore, it is believed that for only one day, the doors of the temple are opened for the darshan of God.

Why does the temple open only on Rakshabandhan?

The story of the opening of this temple on the day of Rakshabandhan is associated with King Bali and Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, King Bali had requested Lord Vishnu to become his gatekeeper, which the Lord accepted and he went to Patala with King Bali. When Mata Lakshmi could not find Lord Vishnu anywhere for many days, on the suggestion of Narad ji, she tied a Raksha Sutra to King Bali on the full moon day of Shravan month and urged him to free Lord Vishnu. After this, King Bali introduced Lord Vishnu to Mata Lakshmi at this place.

It is believed that later the Pandavas built the temple at this place. Women who come here on the day of Rakshabandhan tie Rakhi to Lord Banshi Narayan. Rare species of flowers and trees are also seen around this temple, and the view here is captivating.
