Kawardha is a city located in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh state of India. It is also the headquarters of the district. Kawardha City is situated on the banks of the Kawardha Sakri River. Earlier, the Nagavanshi and Hehevanshi rulers ruled here. They had built many temples and forts here. The remains of these temples and forts can still be seen here. Kawardha Palace
The Kawardha Palace made of Italian marble is very beautiful. It was built by Maharaja Dharmaraj Singh in 1936-39 AD. This palace is spread over 11 acres. The dome of the palace's court is carved with gold and silver. Apart from the dome, its stairs and verandahs are also very beautiful, which tourists like very much. Its entrance is called Hathi Darwaza, which is very beautiful.
Radhakrishna Temple
This temple was built by Raja Ujiyar Singh 180 years ago. In ancient times, sages and saints used to do hard penance in the underground rooms of the temple. Tourists can still see these underground rooms. A pond is also built near the temple. Its name is Ujiyar Sagar. Beautiful views of the temple are visible from the banks of the pond, which tourists like very much.
Apart from Radhakrishna Temple, tourists can also see Bhoramdev Mandwa Palace and Madan Manjari Mahal Temple here. These three temples are very close to each other. Bhoramdev Mandwa Palace and Madan Manjari Mahal Temple are located near Pushpa Sarovar. Marble has been mainly used in the construction of both these temples. Tourists can also see chirping birds on the banks of the lake.
Bhoramdev Temple
Bhoramdev Temple is located in Chaura village, situated at the foot of Satpura Maikal Hills, 18 km to the northwest of the district headquarters Kawardha. Bhoramdev Temple was built by the sixth king of the Phani Naga dynasty, Gopal Dev, in the 11th century 1087 AD. There are three entrance gates built in the temple, all of which look like a semi-mandap. This temple mandap has 16 pillars and four decorated wall pillars at the four corners. Hatkeshwar Mahadev is installed in the middle of a huge water dhari in the square sanctum sanctorum of the temple. In the sanctum sanctorum itself, there is Padmasana Rajpurush with his wife, Padmasana Satpanik Dhyan Magya Yogi, Ashtabhuji idol of Nritya Ganapati, and the five-hooded snake idol, the symbol of the Phani Naga dynasty, are kept. The attractive and two-armed Surya idol of the gods and goddesses is prominent on the outer walls of the temple, made of black-brown sandstone. The most suitable place to see the external beauty of the temple is the northeast corner, i.e. right in front of Bhoramdev, from here the temple looks chariot-shaped. This temple is a square pavilion with seven-sided Chaturanga, interval, and decorated pillars in terms of floor layout. In the vertical layout, the Udhishthan Jangha and the Shikhara are the main parts of the temple. In the three rows of the Jangha of the temple, various gods and goddesses have been decorated with Krishna Leela, heroes and heroines, Ashtadvikpalas, and war and sex scenes.
Chherki Mahal
Chherki Mahal is situated at a distance of one kilometer to the southwest of the Bhoramdev temple. Lord Shiva is seated in this Cherki Mahal of historical and archaeological importance. This brick-made temple faces the east. Built-in the latter half of the 14th century, this temple The smell of the Cheri goat still comes, so this temple-like palace is known as Cherki Mahal. Chaturbhuji Shiva and Dwibhuji Parvati are standing below the branch on the left side of the door frame. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple is square. In the middle, a black stone Shivling is installed on Jaladhaari.
Madwa Mahal
At a distance of half a kilometer from Bhoramdev temple, near Chaira village in the south, there is a stone-built Shiva temple facing west, which is called Madwa Mahal. Local people know it by the name of Dulhadev Temple. This temple was built by the twenty-fourth king of the Phaninaga dynasty, Ramchandra Devraj, in 1349 AD, after his marriage with the Kalchuri princess Ambika Devi of the Ratanpur state. This is found in the inscription of Madwa Mahal. The origin and genealogy of the Phaninaga dynasty is given in this inscription.
Transportation
Air route - Kawardha is located at a distance of 120 km from Raipur. An airport has been built for tourists in Raipur and from here tourists can easily reach Kawardha.
Railway - Kawardha can be easily reached from Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Dongargarh, and Jabalpur railway stations. It is easier for tourists to come to Kawardha from Raipur because there is a very good bus service from there to Kawardha.
Roadway - Tourists can easily reach Kawardha from Raipur-Jabalpur National Highway 30. Apart from these, tourists can easily reach Kawardha by buses and taxis from Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Dongargarh, and Jabalpur.
