Barmer, located in western Rajasthan, forms an important part of the Thar Desert and is thus a desert city that is quite famous for its historical ruins. There are many historical places in Barmer which attract history lovers to Barmer. Being a desert city, Barmer has a harsh climate and low vegetation, but arts, crafts, and music are famous in Rajasthan. You will not find many tourist places here but the historical ruins, temples, and festivals celebrated here are the main attractions of Barmer. Apart from the fort, there are many temples like Kiradu ancient temple and Jain temple which are major places of interest for tourists here.
Barmer Fort
Barmer Fort is one of the most famous tourist attractions of Barmer. The fort was built by Rawat Bhima on the hill in the present city of Barmer in 1552 AD when he shifted his capital from Juna to the present city of Barmer. He built a fort on the top of the city which is also known as Barmer Garh. The top point of the hill on which the fort is built is about 1383 feet but Rawat Bhima built the fort at a height of 676 feet which is a safer place than the top of the hill. The main entrance of the fort is in the north direction, safety towers are built in the east and west direction.
Chintamani Parasnath Jain Temple
Chintamani Parasnath Jain Temple is a famous Jain temple also known as 'Shri Godisa Parsvanath Lord Temple'. This temple is dedicated to Parasnath who is a Jain Tirthankar. Situated on a hilltop west of Barmer city, this Parasnath temple was built in the 12th century. Parshvanath Jain Temple is famous for its magnificent sculptures and decorative paintings which make its interiors attractive. Tourists visiting here should also see the rich glasswork of the artisans in the interior of the temple.
Juna Fort
Juna is a place in Barmer which is now called Old Barmer. Juna was the main city built by Bar Rao but during Rawat Bhima's rule he shifted Barmer to the new place where the present city stands and Juna remains as a ruin of past glory and old heritage. Juna Fort was the old palace where the rulers used to stay before moving to Barmer Fort. Juna Fort is located about 25 kilometers from Barmer and is known for its Jain temple and old fort. According to the inscription on a stone pillar near the temple, it was constructed in the 12th or 13th century. Juna is surrounded by hills and also has a small lake.
Kiradu Temple
Kiradu Temple is one of the major temples of Rajasthan which is known as a scary place rather than a tourist attraction in Rajasthan. The temples of Kiradu are a group of temples also known as Khajuraho in Rajasthan and are famous for their ancient haunted stories. The temples are famous for being a favorite spot for lovers and the backgrounds of the temples are also haunted and the stories are truly hair-raising. There is a belief that no person stops after sunset around the temples here because it is said that whoever stays here will turn into stone and the same story is also remembered in the history of those temples which are filled with horror. Besides being exciting, it is also thrilling.
Shri Nakoda Parshvanath Jain Temple
Shri Nakoda Parshvanath Jain Temple in Barmer is one of the important temples of Jainism and is considered one of the very important places for Jains. Lord Nakoda is a black-colored idol that has great religious significance among the Jains and is also considered a great pilgrimage place for them. The temple is situated on a hill and the view from there is truly stunning.
