Indian Railways, while studying, found that there is a huge gap regarding demand and supply in trains. On the one hand, there is a lot of fighting for seats in the sleeper class. At the same time, many seats remain vacant in AC class.
In view of this, the auto upgradation rule was brought. Under this rule if you select auto upgrade option while booking train ticket.
In such a situation, you can get a seat to travel in AC compartment on the charge of sleeper class. Passengers are upgraded one class under the auto upgradation rule. Sleeper to 3AC, 3AC to 2AC and 2AC to 1AC.
This facility is not available in trains which have only seating arrangement. Apart from this, passengers traveling on concession and passes also do not get the benefit of this facility.
