The history of Mathura is about 2500 years old. This city is also known as Brij Bhoomi, Mathura is the place where Shri Krishna was born. Mathura is such an ancient city that it finds mention in the Hindu epic Ramayana and the writings of the Alexandrian astronomer Ptolemy. Krishna Janmabhoomi
The prison of Mathura where Shri Krishna was born, first of all, tourists like to see this place. It is called Krishna Janmabhoomi. Here you will get to visit the temple as well as visit the attractive cave, for which a separate ticket has to be taken. By taking a ticket of 10 rupees, you can go inside the cave, in which the tableaus of Shri Krishna are shown with sound effects.

Banke Bihari Temple
From here proceed to Vrindavan where there is Shri Banke Bihari Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. The building of this temple is made in Rajasthani style. The temple has an image of Lord Krishna in the form of a child. There is not a single bell or conch shell in this temple because it is believed that the Lord did not like the sound of these instruments here.

Ranganatha Temple
Shri Ranganath Temple is situated on the Vrindavan-Mathura road, it is also known as Rangji Temple. This temple is dedicated to Ranganatha, an incarnation of Lord Krishna, built in the South Indian style. Here the idol of Lord Krishna is kept in the form of a bridegroom. There the brides are skinned. It is one of the largest temples in North India.

Prem Mandir
In the year 2001, Prem Mandir was built by Jagadguru Shri Kripaluji Maharaj. The beauty of this temple attracts devotees. There are gardens around the temple complex, where big tableaux are seen. It would be better to visit this temple in the evening.

Mathura Museum
Also known as Mathura Museum of Archaeology, located in Mathura, Government Museum Mathura is located in Dampier Park. The museum also displays the discoveries made by renowned archaeologists in and around Mathura. Built-in the year 1874, the Mathura Museum boasts a large collection of sculptures, pottery, paintings, artifacts, coins (in gold, silver, and copper), and much more from Mathura and surrounding areas.

Kusum Sarovar
Kusum Sarovar is located near Radhakunj, one of the major places of Mathura. This lake is about 60 feet deep and 450 feet long. It is said that Radha used to come to meet Krishna near this lake. The water of this lake is very calm and clear. Along with this, there is a famous evening aarti which many tourists do not forget to capture in their cameras.

Govardhan Hill
Govardhan Hill located near Vrindavan is the most popular place for devotees and tourists. Govardhan Hill or Giri Raj is situated at a distance of about 22 km from Vrindavan. There are some interesting places to visit in the hills including Mansi Ganga, Mukharvind, and Dan Valley. This hill is considered very sacred. The hill is made of sandstone and is 80 feet high with a circumference of 38 km.

Dwarkadhish Temple, Mathura
The Dwarkadhish Temple in Mathura dedicated to Lord Krishna is a must-visit place for its beauty and architecture. Built-in 1814, the temple is relatively new but highly revered. The gateway boasts of Rajasthani style architecture with an open courtyard in the center as well as beautifully carved pillars and a magnificent painted ceiling.

Kansa Fort
Kansa Fort is an ancient fort in Mathura situated on the banks of the river Yamuna. This fort is dedicated to Kansa, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. Kansa's fort is standing in bad condition due to lack of maintenance, but now tourists come to see it. The fort, also known as the Old Fort of Mathura, dates back to the time of the Mahabharata, and its walls are strongly fortified.

Radha Kund
Radha Kund is a very famous pilgrimage site in Mathura, which is considered a major pilgrimage site for Vaishnavas in India. This city is one of the famous sightseeing places of Mathura. The history of Radha Kund dates back to the days of Radha and Krishna which tells about their love. Thousands of tourists come here every year to visit.

Ghats of Mathura
Mathura in the state of Uttar Pradesh is a place where there used to be many Ghats in the olden times but at present, there are a total of 25 Ghats situated in Mathura situated on the banks of river Yamuna. The relation of these Ghats is told from the time of Lord Krishna. It is believed that taking a bath here washes away the old sins of the devotees.
