There is growing concern about the risks of mosquito-borne diseases in the national capital Delhi-NCR. As per the latest reports, till the 15th of this month, 27 people have been confirmed with dengue, while some 163 cases of dengue have been registered in this whole year so far.

The regular vector-borne diseases report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said that parts of the city were battling water-logging and floods since last week, which could be a condition leading to an increase in mosquito-borne diseases. The report also said that a total of 163 dengue cases have been reported so far this year, which is the highest in the last six years till this period.

According to doctors, patients have increased in hospitals this month as compared to last month, most of the people are recovering easily and returning home. However, due to heavy rains and water logging in the past, the situation in Delhi has further increased the risk of dengue.

Highest number of cases till July for the first time in six years
The MCD report shows that the number of mosquito breeding sites has increased from 8,889 two weeks ago to 12,495 this week. The report said that the current level of dengue cases is the highest in the last six years. In the corresponding period of previous years, Delhi recorded 158 cases in 2022, 40 cases in 2021, 28 cases in 2020, 32 cases in 2019, and 43 cases in 2018.

The situation may worsen due to the flood
In a conversation with Amar Ujala, Dr. Shrey Srivastava of Internal Medicine, Greater Noida, says, floods and waterlogging have increased the risk of many mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue-malaria and chikungunya. There is heavy water-logging in many parts of the capital which can be very suitable for breeding and breeding of mosquitoes. In such a situation, there is a possibility that the cases of dengue may increase in the coming months. To prevent this, everyone must avoid mosquito bites.

Mild symptoms are cured at home
Health experts say that many cases of dengue, in which the symptoms of infection are very mild, can be cured with simple treatment. In the common symptoms of fever and flu, the patient is advised to take plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids, along with paracetamol. Most patients can be cured with these simple measures.

However, if the symptoms are severe, there is a problem of hemorrhagic fever or there is a decrease in platelets, then hospitalization is required.

How to identify dengue?
Doctors tell blood test is done to confirm dengue. However, some symptoms like high fever, headache-body ache, nausea, and skin rash can be a sign of dengue. In severe cases, the patient also starts having problems with bleeding like vomiting or eating blood from defecation, and platelets decrease very fast. Most patients recover in 1-2 weeks. Some states are also seeing type-2 cases of dengue which can be a serious pathogen.
