Churu is a city and Lok Sabha constituency in the desert part of Rajasthan. It is also called the gate of the Thar Desert. It is the district headquarters of Churu district. It was established in 1620 AD by Nirban Maharaj Pradumna Singh. Churu was a part of Bikaner district before India's independence. In 1948, it was separated from Bikaner when it was reorganized. The town is located in the Thar Desert at 28.2900° N, 74.9600° E on the National Highway 52 connecting Sangrur to Ankola, the rail route to Bikaner.

Attraction
Ratangarh

This is a historical fort. A large number of tourists come here to visit. This fort was built by King Ratan Singh of Bikaner in 1820 AD. This fort is situated on the Agra-Bikaner road. There are also many havelis around this place. Here the dunes keep changing shape and location with the direction of the wind. The city has many very beautiful havelis like Kanhaiya Lal Bangla Ki Haveli and Surana Haveli etc., which have thousands of small jharokhas and windows. These are wonderful examples of Rajasthani architectural style with frescoes and beautiful umbrella decorations. There is an arena of Nath sadhus near the city, where idols of deities are made. A religious stupa has also been built in this city which is a symbol of religious equality. There is a fort in the center of the city which is about 500 years old.

Salasar Balaji
This is the temple of Lord Hanuman. This temple is situated on the Jaipur-Bikaner road. Churu is one of the major religious places in India. It is believed that whatever wish is asked here is fulfilled. Every year two big fairs are organized here. These fairs are held in the month of Chaitra (April) and Ashwin Purnima (October). Lakhs of devotees from India and abroad come here to have the darshan of Salasar Balaji. This temple remains open throughout the year.

Surana Haveli
It is a six storied building. This is a big mansion. Beautiful paintings have been done on the windows of this mansion. There are 1111 windows and doors in this mansion. This mansion was constructed in 1870.

Dudhwa Khara
Historically, this place is very important. This place is situated at a distance of 36 kms from Churu. This village is famous for its natural beauty and beautiful havelis. The real rural environment of Rajasthan can be experienced by coming here. Apart from this, the camel ride is also very famous here. Dudhwa Khara has a special place in the historical farmer's movement as well.

Tal Chhapar Sanctuary
Tal Chhapar Sanctuary is located in Churu district. This place is mainly famous for blackbuck. Many other animals like chinkara, fox, jungle cat as well as many species of birds can be seen in this sanctuary. The area of this sanctuary is 719 square hectares. And it is also named for Kunraja birds. It is located near Chhapar town in Churu district. It was given the status of a sanctuary on 11 May 1966.

Kothari Haveli
This haveli was built by Oswal Jain Kothari, a famous businessman who named it after his gotra. The paintings done on this haveli are very beautiful. Kothari Haveli has a very artistic room called Malji's room. He got it constructed in the year 1925.

Umbrella
Churu has many attractive domes. Most of the domes were built by wealthy merchants. One such dome-eight pillar chhatri was built in the year 1776.
