Come to Mahadev's second house

Pachmarhi, which is called the second home of Mahadev after Kailasa, has not one but many such big caves whose vastness amazes the tourists. In some cases, not only have Shivlings appeared naturally, but they are anointed by nature itself throughout the year.

This place with mountains, dense forests, and caves fascinates as well as thrills. According to belief, when Bhasmasur wanted to use the power he had received as a boon from Lord Shiva, Mahadev turned to the caves of Pachmarhi itself. It is said that since then there are Shivlings in these caves whose continuous consecration is going on.

Pandavas spent in exile

Suresh Patwa, who has written a book on Pachmarhi, says that geographically, there are three major mountains Dhupgarh, Chauragarh, and Mahadev Parvat. Between these three is the plateau of Pachmarhi. According to folklore, the Pandavas had spent some time in exile here. During this, he built five machines (huts) for himself. For this reason, its name got corrupted from Panchmarhi to Pachmarhi.

These are the main religious places

Jata Shankar: Jatashankar is the first place on entering Pachmarhi. To reach this cave, one and a half km away from the bus stand, one has to descend in the foothills between two steep mountains. On reaching the cave about one and a half km down, one can see clear water seeping from the mountains. Here there are many Shivling in the middle of the water. The amazing atmosphere makes the devotees feel like being in a different world.

Mahadev Cave: Vishal Mahadev cave is situated 15 km away from Pachmarhi. Several viewpoints, Handi Khoh and Priyadarshini Sunset Point on the hilly way to reach here increase the enjoyment of the journey manifold. About 50 meters deep, this cave is filled with water in the middle. Shivling is situated at the end of the cave, on which water keeps falling naturally.

Gupta Mahadev: Mahadev has a temple in a 40 feet deep cave built between two steep rocks. The entrance and further passage of the cave are so narrow that only one person can go through them. In such a situation, seven to eight people go inside at a time and when they come out, the next group gets admission. The cave widens inside where the idol of Lord Ganesha is installed along with the Shivling.

Chandigarh: There is an attractive temple of Lord Shiva here. Built at an altitude of 1,326 meters, the way to this temple is difficult, for which one has to climb 1,300 steps, but the view that one sees on reaching the top takes away all the tiredness. Trishul is visible all around the grand temple situated on the top. Trishul is offered here after the request made to the Lord is fulfilled. Many devotees are found trekking with heavy trishuls. The journey to this place takes more than half a day.

alluring waterfalls

Bee Fall, Rajat Fall, Reech Fall, and Duchess Fall are the major waterfalls that flow throughout the year.
