India is a country of wonders, from food, clothing, and culture to different types of languages spoken here. But you might be surprised to know that there is a village in India which is known as Mini Africa.
You might be feeling very strange after hearing this, but Africa is in the lap of India. This village is not located anywhere else in Gujarat. Jambur village of Gujarat is called Small Africa. If you come here to travel, you will also feel the same.
Why is it called Little Africa?
Looking at the colour of the people living in Jambur village, it is called Little Africa. Most of the people living here belong to the Bantu tribe but now they have got the title of Siddi community. The Bantu tribe is found in South Eastern Africa.
It is believed that the people living here came to India from Arabia. It is said that they are originally from South Africa. Some of these people were brought to India as slaves and some were farmers, but as time progressed, these people settled here. Gradually this village has now become their village.
It is said that the Siddis were brought here from Africa by the Nawab of Junagadh. The name Siddi is derived from the Arabic word Syed/Sayid, which means lord.
What language do people speak?
You will be surprised to know that these people speak only Gujarati language. People of this community do not marry people outside their community. That is why even after so many centuries, the complexion of the people living in Jambur is the same.
But these people follow Gujarati culture. Even wear Indian clothes. Apart from Jambur, people of this community are spread in coastal states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.
People of the Siddi tribe are also found in Makran and Karachi Pakistan.
Where is this village located?
It is located in Junagadh district of Gujarat. Jambur is situated at a distance of about 24 km. The nearest airport is Diu, 71 km from Jambur.
