The Durgavati Reservoir is the Durgavati river originating from the Shergarh hill of Rohtas and Rajadev Tongar hill near Karamchat in Kaimur. There is an ancient underground fort of Shergarh in the range of Rohtas on the eastern bank of the dam. At a short distance from there, the ancient fort of Bhudkuda is also present for hundreds of years. For the tourists going there, even a whole day is falling short for sightseeing. Reservoir construction work completed after 38 years

There were many difficulties in the construction of this reservoir, but after 38 years in 2014, the Durgavati reservoir project was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. Its foundation was laid by the then Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram in 1976 to irrigate the fields of farmers of Kaimur and Rohtas. Since then this reservoir became a political issue and every party in Sasaram parliamentary constituency kept trying to cross its boat by making this reservoir an issue. Ultimately, the credit for its inauguration went to former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

How to get here

About 34 km from the district headquarters and 17 km from the Rampur block headquarter, it is situated on the South Kaimur hill. There are two ways to reach here. One can reach Durgavati Dam from Rohtas's Chenery via Malhipur via the road leading to Sabar Bhitaribandh like the south after the Sabar Bhabua main road.
