Interesting history of Zafar Mahal
This palace is still located in Mehrauli, which was built in 1820 by Shahjahan's grandson Akbar Shah II. But it was rebuilt again in the 19th century by Bahadur Shah Zafar. According to the biography of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the emperor had also constructed a luxurious door on the exterior of this luxurious palace.
This palace was very luxurious at its time, but now due to lack of maintenance, this palace is turning into ruins. Over the years, the stone slab placed at its main entrance has fallen and several slabs from the roof of the gateway have collapsed over time.
The palace was built as a resting place
This palace was built by Bahadur Shah Zafar as his resting place because at that time Mehrauli had dense forests, which used to be a more comfortable place for hunting and summer stay than outer Delhi.
The palace also has a graveyard, where many members of the royal Mughal family are buried. Zafar had also marked a place for his burial in the same cemetery before his death, but the British defeated him in 1857 and he breathed his last in 1862.

Zafar Mahal is considered to be the last Mughal monument. This is its speciality, whose structure is three-storey. It is made of red sandstone. However, it also has a large balcony built later in the Mughal style. The speciality of this building is that the mixture of Mughal and European styles makes the palace attractive.
