On one side, work is seen on the replica of the ancient symbol of India on the road, while on the other side of this road, about 400 years old historical structure is seen shedding tears of neglect. This structure is one of the historical buildings of the village Mehram Nagar, adjacent to Terminal-1 of IGI. Due to a lack of maintenance, this building is now on the verge of collapse.

The State Archaeological Department started work towards its conservation in the year 2015 in association with INTACH (The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage). But on the issue of ownership between the two departments, there was such a ruckus here that it was left on its condition. Residents of Mehram Nagar village say that if this building is preserved properly, there is immense potential for tourism here.

This historical structure is established on the land of the Ministry of Defense and the responsibility of its management is with Raksha Sampada Bhawan. Officials of the State Archaeological Department said that some part of the wall and two domes are left in the name of this historical structure in the village.

In 2015, the work of straightening the wall was started. About 30 percent work was done, but due to some reason, the Delhi Cantonment Board stopped the work, which has remained stalled till today. The officials of the present Delhi Cantonment Board have no clear information on this, but they said that in the year 2015, the State Archaeological Department had sought permission for the conservation of the historic building. After this, the matter was discussed with the higher officials. In which the matter of transfer of the land to the Delhi Cantonment Board was kept, but the higher authorities did not give any clear instructions on this, due to which the work towards the conservation of the historical structure could not progress further.

Know about its history

The structure is visible on the way down from the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway flyover near Raksha Sampada Bhavan and on the way to IGI Terminal-1 from Ulaanbaatar Road. It is said that earlier there used to be an inn here. The domes built at the corners of the boundary wall of this inn are still visible from afar. However, now only two domes are left. There is also a Baradari in the compound.

It is spread over a complex of about 10 acres on the left side of the road on the way from Ulaanbaatar Road toward Dwarka. This inn was built by Mehram Khan. Merham Khan is said to have been in charge of the harem of the Mughal emperor's Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. When an inn was built here, a colony also settled around here. Later it came to be known as a village.
