The Indian team has to play some big tournaments this year including the Asia Cup and the World Cup. Before this, some star players of the team are struggling with injuries. Apart from Rishabh Pant, these include KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah. Pant is recovering from a road accident last year, while Rahul is out of the team due to thigh and back problems and Bumrah. Rahul was injured during a match in the IPL and because of that, he missed the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).
However, media reports have revealed that Rahul is currently undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is all set to start batting practice in a few weeks. It is also being said in the reports that Rahul and Bumrah may return from the Asia Cup tournament to be held in September. Reacting to reports of Rahul's comeback, former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan believes that the batsman should first test himself by playing in domestic tournaments.
He should be made to play domestic cricket to assess his match fitness and batting form. Getting back into the Indian team should not be so easy, you bat in the nets and ready for international competition — Laxman Sivaramakrishnan (@LaxmanSivarama1) June 28, 2023
Responding to a tweet, Sivaramakrishnan said, "He should play domestic cricket to assess his match fitness and batting form." Getting back into the Indian team shouldn't be that easy. You bat in the nets and get ready to play in international competition. The cricketer-turned-commentator Sivaramakrishnan also urged the team management to keep an eye on someone like Sai Sudarshan and give him a chance. Sai Sudarshan had a stellar performance during IPL 2023.
He wrote in another tweet, "Players like Sai Sudarshan, a left-handed middle-order batsman, need to be kept an eye on." Earlier, KL Rahul had informed his fans about his rehab by tweeting after surgery in London. He wrote – My surgery was successful. I am on my way to recovery now. I am determined to do my best and get back on the field. Rahul also shared a picture of Chinnaswamy Stadium with Pant.
