India's opening batsman Shubman Gill has reached Ahmedabad to prepare for the much-awaited ODI World Cup match against Pakistan on October 14. Gill suffered a setback when he was diagnosed with dengue fever ahead of India's clash with Australia, resulting in him being admitted to a hospital in Chennai.

According to reliable sources, Gill was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night due to a sharp drop in his platelet count, which dropped below one lakh to reportedly around 70,000. Fortunately, Gill's condition improved rapidly, leading to his being discharged on Monday night, with his platelet count also improving.

However, it is still not clear whether the 24-year-old opening batsman will be able to play in the match against Pakistan on October 14 or not.

India's batting coach Vikram Rathod has suggested that Shubman Gill is making remarkable improvement and could be back in action soon.

Dr. Amarinder Singh said- “He is recovering; Yes, he was admitted to the hospital, but that was as a precaution. He is back at the hotel (in Chennai). He is looking good, the medical team is monitoring him. Whatever updates we get, we are hoping he gets better soon.”

“As far as the team is concerned, everyone is fit. It is expected that Gill will return to the team soon. They should take a good amount of fluids. It will take some time for him to recover."

"If myalgia and joint pain are taken care of, he will recover faster. A good amount of health supplements, fruits, and fluids will help him recover," Dr Amarinder Singh said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Atul Gogia, senior consultant at Gangaram Hospital, has said that recovery from dengue largely depends on the immunity of the person. Generally, it takes about 10 to 15 days to completely recover from dengue. However, some individuals who hold sedentary jobs and do office work may be able to return to work after only a week.

On the other hand, for professional athletes like Shubman Gill, who need to run, endure the pressure of the World Cup, and spend long hours on the field, a high level of fitness is essential. Therefore, it will take some time for them to regain their full strength.

In 2023, Shubman Gill emerged as a dominant force in the One Day International (ODI) format. He has proved to be India's most prolific batsman, scoring a total of 1230 runs at an impressive average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03. In just 20 innings, Gill has showcased his remarkable talent by scoring five centuries and the same number of half-centuries, including a memorable double-century against New Zealand in Hyderabad.

Gill's exceptional performances in the Asia Cup 2023 campaign have further cemented his position as a top player. As India became champions, Gill emerged as the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
