Delhi Capitals on Tuesday appointed former Indian fast bowler Munaf Patel as their bowling coach for the upcoming phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL). 41-year-old Munaf will work with head coach Hemang Badani and cricket director Venugopal Rao. Munaf, who retired from professional cricket in 2018, popularly known as Munnabhai, will take over the coaching responsibility for the first time in his career. He will replace James Hopes, who left the French franchise along with head coach Ricky Ponting after IPL 2024.

Two-time IPL champion

Munaf has represented India in all formats. He has played 86 international matches and taken 125 international wickets. He was part of India's World Cup-winning team in 2011 and also won the IPL twice with Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Mumbai Indians (2013). Delhi Capitals have retained four players Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abhishek Porel for the upcoming season.

Won the World Cup for India

When the Indian cricket team won the World Cup after 28 years in 2011 after 1983, Munaf Patel played an important role in it. Patel took four wickets in India's first World Cup match against Bangladesh. His performance against England was also commendable. His role in the India-Pakistan semi-final match in Mohali also cannot be forgotten. Munaf Patel took 11 wickets in eight matches including the final. He was also a part of the 2007 World Cup squad. Then in the tournament held in the West Indies, the team could not progress beyond the group stage.
