IND VS SA: The Indian cricket team is currently playing a three-match Test series on the South Africa tour. After this, the team has to play a three-match ODI series from January 19. Team India's limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma is out of the Test series due to injury and now there are reports that he will be out of the ODI series as well. After becoming the captain of the ODI team, Rohit suffered a hamstring strain and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Former head coach Ravi Shastri explained how snatching ODI captaincy can prove to be a boon for Virat Kohli

According to the report of Sports Today, Rohit is not fit yet and that is why there is a delay in the announcement of Team India for the South Africa ODI series. The selection committee is waiting till the last moment for the captain of the white ball team to be fit. The Indian team for the ODI series against South Africa can be announced on December 30 or 31. And till then if Rohit is not fit, then KL Rahul will be made the captain of the Indian team for the ODI series in his place. This means that Test captain Virat Kohli will be seen playing in the ODI series under the captaincy of opener Rahul. Rahul is also currently the vice-captain of the Test team.

The report further states that it is difficult for Rohit to be fit for the ODI series as he has suffered a hamstring injury. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for this injury to heal. Now it remains to be seen how long Rohit Sharma is fit. In fact, before leaving for the South Africa tour, the selectors removed Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy. Virat had left the T20 captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2021 and after that, he also lost the ODI captaincy.

Earlier, there were reports that Rohit has cleared his first fitness test ahead of the announcement of the squad for the ODI series against South Africa and may join the team before the third Test. Rohit is in NCA where he is recovering from an injury. Apart from Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are also doing rehabilitation at NCA.
