India suffered a setback before the T20 series against New Zealand. India's star batsman Rituraj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series due to wrist pain. The National Cricket Academy conducted an inquiry into Rituraj's injury. Prithvi Shaw's return to the team has increased in the absence of Rituraj Gaikwad.
It may be noted that Gaikwad was last involved in a Ranji Trophy match for Maharashtra against Hyderabad. He scored 8 and 0 in that game. According to Cricbuzz, Rituraj later informed the BCCI about his wrist injury. Incidentally, this is the second time that Gaikwad has had trouble with his wrist. He missed the T20Is against Sri Lanka last year with a similar injury. He also missed the home ODI against the West Indies last year as he tested positive for Covid.
Jadeja's fitness report will come on February 1
Meanwhile, the BCCI may make a big disclosure about Ravindra Jadeja's fitness ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series on February 1. The NCA report on his fitness will be available before the series. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is making a comeback from a knee injury, is currently playing for Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy in Chennai.
The NCA will evaluate his fitness report after the match is over. The selectors and team management will take a call on his availability before India's pre-series camp begins in Nagpur on February 2. The first match of the four-Test series will be played from February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.
