The first match of the ODI World Cup was played between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With the help of centuries from openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, New Zealand defeated England by 9 wickets. However, despite this defeat, the England team has made a different record in its name. This is the first time in the 48-year history of the World Cup that 11 out of 11 batsmen were successful in reaching double figures in the first innings. During England's innings, all the batsmen touched double figures.

This has never happened before in the ICC ODI World Cup. England opener Jonny Bairstow scored 33 runs in 35 balls in the match against New Zealand. Whereas David Malan contributed 14 runs on 24 balls. Apart from this, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone scored 77, 25, 11, 43 and 20 runs respectively. After this Sam Curran returned after scoring 14 runs. Along with this, Chris Woakes scored 11 runs, Adil Rashid scored 15 not out and Mark Wood scored 13 not out.

The first match was played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In this match, the New Zealand team won the toss and decided to bowl first. After this, the England team came to bat and scored 282 runs after losing 9 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway made a big partnership of 273 runs and led the team to victory.
