CBSE Board Exam Format Changes: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an instruction to all affiliated schools regarding assessment and evaluation practice for the academic year 2024-25. Necessary changes have been introduced for the annual examinations of classes 11 to 12.

For the academic session 2024-25, CBSE has specifically outlined changes in the format of papers for class 11 to 12 board exams.

For Class 9-10, the paper format remains unchanged from the previous academic year, with competency-focused in the form of MCQs/case-based accounting for 50 percent, multiple-choice response type questions (MCQs) for 20 percent, and Constructed response questions for %.

In Class 11-12, the proportion of select response type questions remains the same at 30 percent as before, with a change in aptitude-focused questions in the form of MCQs/case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, or any other. From 40% to 50% in the academic year 2023-24, and Constructed Response Questions (short answer questions/long answer type questions as per the existing pattern) from 40% to 30% in the academic session 2024-25.

These changes have been made by the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP), which emphasizes competency-based education in schools. CBSE is actively implementing measures to underline assessment with NEP objectives. This includes the development of resources for teachers and students and continuous capacity building of teachers.

CBSE said, "The entire thrust of the board was to create an educational ecosystem that moves away from rote learning and towards learning that focuses on students' creativity, critical and systems thinking capabilities to meet the challenges of the 21st century."
