What are the rules regarding train ticket cancellation

Railway shares information regarding ticket cancellation that if you cancel after ticket confirmation, there will be different deductions for different classes. However, it has to be 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.

If the ticket is first ac then Rs 240, second ac Rs 200, third ac then Rs 180, sleeper class then Rs 120, and second class then Rs 60 is charged.

If the ticket is canceled 48 to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, 25 percent of the total fare will be deducted. 50% of the total fare will be deducted if the ticket is canceled 12 to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. If the ticket is on the waiting list or RAC and the ticket is canceled one and a half hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the full fare will be refunded.

What is the process to cancel the ticket?

If your train continues to run late even after chart preparation, you will need to file a TDR to cancel your ticket. To do this log in to IRCTC and follow the instructions to cancel your ticket till the time the chart is generated. It is to be noted that this will be applicable only in those situations when your train is delayed or canceled due to weather or other circumstances. For other circumstances like cancellation of train tickets due to a change in personal plans or getting a refund, different rules and procedures may apply.

You can place a request for a refund of the train ticket on the IRCTC portal or at the reservation counter. To get the refund, you have to log in to the same account on the IRCTC portal from which you booked the ticket. On the other hand, if the train is running late by more than three hours, then only you can claim a full refund of the ticket as per the rules.
