In the first study of its kind, researchers found that people who ate one and a half cups of grapes daily for four months had significantly improved eye health. In the conclusion of the study published in the scientific journal Food and Function, researchers said that regular consumption of grapes can be beneficial in macular pigment. Author Dr. Jung Yoon Kim says, this is the first study in which grapes have benefits for eyes. The risk of eye-related problems increases with increasing age.

Researchers say that one of the major factors of eye diseases is AGES. These are a type of harmful compounds that form when proteins or fats mix with sugars in the bloodstream. Dietary antioxidants help prevent the development of AGEs, thereby protecting the retina.

For this study, the team of researchers included 34 participants, some people were given grapes and some people were given a placebo for 16 weeks. After the study, researchers found that people who ate grapes saw significant benefits in reducing eye problems. Researchers say fruits like grapes should be made a regular part of the diet.
