Everyone sweats. It is an important part of your body's cooling system and it keeps you from overheating. Many things can make you sweat, such as hot weather, exercise, or even spicy foods.
You run a little or take more stress. When the temperature of the weather suddenly rises or while exercising in the gym, we often get sweaty. On the other hand, some people sweat excessively.
Now while doing exercise, we can understand that if calories are burnt then sweating is also inevitable, but when it happens without any reason then it becomes a cause of trouble. In summer the condition becomes even worse, but have you ever thought what the reason behind it is?
Why do we sweat?
No one likes a sticky body and sweating, but it's important to remember that sweating is completely normal and even necessary. We sweat to help regulate our body temperature. This helps our body to cool down through evaporation.
We only see that sweating is making our body sticky or it smells, but we do not see the goodness behind it. Excessive sweating is not a sign of any major health problem, but you should consult a doctor if you are sweating excessively.
How much sweating is too much?
It depends on different people how much they sweat. However, usually, a common man sweats up to 0.5-2 liters in an hour through physical activity. On the other hand, people who sweat a lot, shed at least 3 liters of sweat throughout the day without doing any work. It also depends on many factors.
Excessive sweating can be hyperhidrosis
Excessive sweating can also be due to generalized hyperhidrosis. There is excessive sweating in the hands, feet, head and other parts of the body. It can be a symptom of an underlying health condition, including a metabolic disorder (such as hyperthyroidism), diabetes, infection, or lymph tumours. Excessive sweating can be brought on by excessive drinking, and medications, especially antidepressants. Hyperhidrosis can also be caused by anxiety and hormone changes.
What to control sweating?
- If you do not sweat a lot, you can take some measures to keep the sweating under control.
- Keep your environment cool and comfortable, especially at night.
- Avoid spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and other foods that cause excessive sweating.
- Use clinical-strength antiperspirants.
- Choose loose-fitting clothing made from natural fabrics.
- Wear shoes and socks made from natural materials. Try sandals, moisture-wicking socks, and airing your feet during the day.
- Always carry a handkerchief or a small towel to wipe off sweat and keep your skin dry.
- Invest in a portable fan that you can easily take with you.
