WhatsApp has recently introduced the ability to send 60-second video messages to its users. It is now learned that WhatsApp is bringing a new feature to groups that will help members make conversations more fun. The feature is rolling out to the Android beta version of the Meta messaging platform.
As WABetaInfo reports, WhatsApp has started rolling out the new group voice chat feature for Android beta testers on app version 2.23.16.19. Users will have to update their apps to get access to this upcoming feature.
How the feature works
If your account has this feature enabled and is compatible with the group, a new voice waveform icon will appear within the group chat. Tapping on this icon will automatically start the voice chat, and a dedicated interface will appear.
Anyone in the group chat can join the voice chat at any time and start speaking. If the voice chat is empty or no one joins it, it will automatically end after 60 minutes.
More than 32 users will be able to participate
The report also states that voice chats are limited to specific categories. Typically, they can only work in groups of more than 32 participants. The main advantage of voice chats lies in their ability to initiate calls without having to ring the phone of every participant within the group.
However, every member of a WhatsApp group will still receive a muted push notification when a new voice chat is created in their respective groups, and the group icon will display a compact thumbnail symbolizing the voice chat in the chat list. The report also states that the voice chats are also end-to-end encrypted.
Whatsapp soon animated avatar feature
WhatsApp is currently in the process of rolling out an animated avatar functionality. The messaging application recently introduced two new upgrades for both the iOS and Android versions with a focus on avatars.
