Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has announced the rollout of a password-less Passkey feature for all Android users. This feature has been introduced as a new security feature. The company said the move aims to enhance security and convenience by eliminating the need for traditional two-factor SMS authentication, which was insecure and irritating.

What is the new pass-key feature?
A passkey is a unique ID that confirms a user's identity and ensures that your account is accessed only on authorized devices. A short combination of some numbers or letters is called a passkey. Face recognition, fingerprint, or pin code can be used to setup the passkey.

According to the company, Android support for Passkey will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks and months. Passkey provides an alternative to traditional passwords by using authentication methods available on your device. Both Apple and Google already provide passkey support to their users. Just last week, Google encouraged users to switch from passwords to passkeys for added security.

Let us tell you that this feature has currently been made available for Android users. The feature was first introduced for beta users, but now general users will also be able to use it.

How to use a passkey
To use the new feature, first go to WhatsApp's settings. From here go to the pass-key option. Now select Create a Passkey. Follow the on-screen instructions and set up the passkey.
