Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the rollout of this feature through a Facebook post on Thursday. As soon as a user adds an image to the chat, the HD icon will appear.
This feature was tested some time ago. However, it is worth noting that more data will be consumed while sharing HD images. Such images will also take up more storage in the phone.
How does WhatsApp 'HD photos' work?
This feature of WhatsApp was first spotted by WABetaInfo. It is claimed that whenever users share the photo, the HD image will be slightly compressed. Users have to manually select the HD option every time.
Although Meta has not told how much it will compress the HD photo. WhatsApp has already stated that the HD images shared by users will be secured with end-to-end encryption. Suppose you share HD photos with someone and his internet is slow, then those users will be able to download standard photos instead of HD.
Recently the brand has also introduced a screen-sharing feature during video calls. It looks very similar to Google Meet and Zoom.
