WhatsApp has updated its terms and services. This update is regarding WhatsApp chat backup in the Android app. According to the new update, backup of WhatsApp chats in Google Drive will no longer be free. Chat backup of WhatsApp Android will now be included in the storage of Google Drive only, that is, you will have to take a backup of WhatsApp chats in only 15 GB and save the data of Gmail, Google Drive, etc. You will have to spend money on storage more than this.
The new policy has started becoming visible to beta users of WhatsApp. The new policy is coming into effect from December 2023. For your information, let us tell you that only 5 GB of free storage is available for chat backup on iOS devices. Storage more than this costs money.
Google gives a total of 15 GB of free cloud storage to its account users which the users use for Gmail, Google Photos, and other files. If you are an Android user of WhatsApp and after exhausting your quota of 15 GB storage, for chat backup you will have to subscribe to Google One which is a fee-based subscription.
How to get free storage for chat backup?
If you want to keep backing up your WhatsApp chats for free, you should upload small files to Google Drive. Apart from this, you will have to delete such photos and videos which you do not need. To understand in very simple language, you will have to free up the storage of your Google Drive.
Apart from this, another solution is to take a chat backup only of text and not of videos and photos. If you want to take backup by paying then the annual price of Google One cloud service is Rs 1,300. In this, you will get 100 GB storage.
