Many times people die at the scene of fire simply because they do not know how to protect themselves. Today we will tell you what things you should keep in mind and what mistakes should not be made if there is a fire in your flat.

1. Do not use the lift

If your flat is on the top floor, never use the lift to come down. You should only use the stairs in case of fire as the risk of getting trapped in the lift is high. For your safety, you should not use the lift. Apart from this, when you are surrounded by smoke in the flat, cover your nose and mouth with a wet cloth.

2. Do not switch on the electric

You should never turn on an electric switch or appliance in case of a fire because electrical wires do not take long to catch fire. Apart from this, you can install smoke detectors in your flat.

This will increase your safety and you will be aware of a fire in advance. Along with this, you should also get the smoke detector checked from time to time. You can also get a fire alarm installed in your flat.

3. What not to do if clothes catch fire

You shouldn't run too far if your clothes catch fire. This increases the risk of fire outbreaks. In case of a clothing fire, you should lie down on the ground and cover yourself with a blanket or coat. This will extinguish the fire quickly.

Also, if you are trapped in a smoke-filled room and there is no way out, close the door and seal all cracks and crevices with wet towels or sheets to prevent smoke from entering.
