Running engages large muscle groups such as the glutes and quads. Both are muscles of the lower body. If there is no activity other than walking in one's lifestyle, one can incorporate exercises that work the upper body as well.
You can do the exercise by raising or swinging your arms. While taking a walk, you can do squats while standing on a park bench. Instead of watching the time, count the number of dogs you see on the street. Set a target for 25 dogs that they will not see until you keep running.
