Many temples in India are full of mysteries. One of these is the Shree Yaganti Uma Maheshwar Temple, which is located in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It was built by King Harihara Bukka of the Sangama dynasty in the 15th century. This temple is in the limelight of the statue of Nandi present here.
It is said that the statue of Nandi Maharaj located in the temple is continuously becoming gigantic in a mysterious way. The shape of the Nandi idol is increasing by about one inch every 20 years and due to this many pillars of the temple also had to be removed.
It is said that the original size of the Nandi idol was very small, but when its size continued to increase, the antiquities department did research on it. It has been found in the research that the statue of Nandi has been made from such a stone, which tends to expand.
It is said that in ancient times, sage Agastya wanted to build a temple of Lord Venkateswara at this place, but during the installation of the idol in the temple, the toenail of the idol broke. Sage Agastya did penance to Lord Shiva. After that, with the blessings of Lord Shiva, sage Agastya established Uma Maheshwar and Nandi.
There is also a pond named Pushkarini in this temple. Here water continuously falls from the mouth of Nandi. Where does this water come from is still a mystery. It is said that sage Agastya had worshiped Shiva only after bathing in this pond.
