The University Grants Commission i.e. UGC is considering making the graduation program 4 years old in all higher education institutions from the coming academic session 2023-24, for which a framework has also been prepared by the commission. According to UGC, it will share its rules with all universities across the country by next week. These rules will be implemented in all 45 universities across the country as well as in FYUGP and private as well as state universities. Many deemed universities have already agreed to this.

According to UGC, this course will be implemented in all universities but no student will be forced for this. According to them, they will be able to take admitted to it or not, that is, they will also be able to take admitted to the already running graduate programs. According to the chairman of UGC, students who have already taken admission in graduation can also change their course to a 4-year course if they wish. But this facility will be only for the students in the first and second year of graduation. This course will be started the next year 2023-24.

For these four-year courses, some relaxation will also be given by the UGC to the universities in making rules. And if the universities want, they will be able to give a chance to the students in the last year of the current 3-year course to participate in the 4-year program.

55 percent marks will be mandatory for students to take admitted to PG and Ph.D. after their 4-year graduate program. It is noteworthy that this 4-year course has been mentioned under the new education policy. Many such changes can happen in the future as per the suggestions given in the new education policy.
