Every day almost many people travel by railway. Indian Railways takes full care of the convenience of its passengers and keeps on making changes keeping in view modernity. If you have ever travelled by train, then you must have also noticed that there are only 24 coaches in a passenger train, but why does this happen?
Why are there, not more than 24 coaches?
Passenger trains do not have more than 24 coaches because whenever two trains come face to face on a track, one of them is made to stand on the other track for some time to give way to the other train. The track on which this train is parked is called the loop line. In such a situation, no passenger train should be bigger than the loop line. For this reason, there are no more than 24 coaches in a passenger train.
What does loop line mean?
A loop line means that the passenger train can be stopped when any express train has to give way. In this situation, the train is diverted from the main line and put on the loop line, to make way for another train. As per railway rules, the loop line is 650 to 750 meters long. In such a situation, if a passenger train has to come in the loop line, then it should not be longer than this. Let us tell you that the length of 24 coaches becomes about 650 meters and for this reason, more coaches are not installed in the passenger train. On the other hand, if it is a goods train, then the length of the coaches in it varies. 30 to 40 coaches can be installed in the goods train.
