A large number of people in the country travel on national highways to go anywhere. However, while traveling on national highways, many times toll plazas come on the way, where toll tax has to be paid. It is worth noting that earlier toll tax had to be paid manually. Due to this, a long line of vehicles used to be formed at the toll plaza. However, now things have changed a lot. With the arrival of the Fastag system, the process of paying toll tax has become very convenient. In this, the scanner installed at the toll plaza deducts the toll tax by scanning the Fastag installed on the vehicle. At the same time, now the government is working on a special kind of scheme, with the arrival of which it is being said that toll plazas can end. The Government of India is planning to launch a satellite-based toll system in the country.

Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had given information about this in the Rajya Sabha. Speaking on his point, he had said that there is a plan to install a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based toll tax system on some selected national highways of the country.

If the Global Navigation Satellite System is installed on national highways across India, then the need for toll plazas in the country may end. However, the government will install the Global Navigation Satellite System only on some selected national highways.

Initially, it will work only on the hybrid model. In this, the toll will be deducted from the Global Navigation Satellite System, and toll tax will also be deducted from Fastag.

There are a large number of national highways in the country. At the same time, there is no plan to implement Global Navigation Satellite System in the entire India. In such a situation, for now, toll plazas will not end in the country.
