Becoming a mother is a great happiness for any woman. However, today's lifestyle is such that women are surrounded by many diseases like thyroid, PCOS, blood pressure, blood sugar and stress. Due to these conditions, it can be difficult for any woman to conceive. The journey of conception is very exciting for any woman, but it is also full of uncertainties. The medical condition of all women is different, so the chances also depend on it.
Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr Bela Shah Jain keeps sharing all the information on social media accounts. She tells in a post that for pregnancy you have to start preparing even before conception. You have to bring many small and big changes in your life. These planning and changes can help you have a successful pregnancy. Let us tell you about those seven changes in this article.
1. Focus on lifestyle
What you are eating also affects your pregnancy a lot. Eating nutritious foods is important for your good health, especially during pregnancy. Include whole grains, vegetables, fruits and lean proteins in your diet. Also, drink an adequate amount of water and take a proper diet.
2. Exercise regularly
Staying fit is important not only during pregnancy but also before and after. The more active you are, the better this time will be for you. By exercising regularly you will be able to balance your weight. This will reduce stress and you will feel good during pregnancy.
3. Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption
Smoking and consuming alcohol are harmful to you. It unbalances your hormones. This can also cause many complications in pregnancy. Smoking affects the blood supply to the ovaries and causes rapid loss of eggs.
4. Consume folic acid
Folic acid is very important for women. Certain vitamins, especially folic acid, are important for the health and development of the fetus. According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, women of childbearing age should take at least 0.4 mg of folic acid at least one to three months before conceiving.
5. Take pre-conception counselling
This is one of the most important steps. About 60 to 90 days before conception, start counselling with your gynaecologist. He will discuss your reproductive goals, and check you for conditions like anaemia. If you need any kind of treatment, start it.
6. Get all your blood tests done
Before pregnancy, you have a carrier screening test that checks your blood or saliva to see if you have any genetic conditions. Many tests are done even during pregnancy, but before that, it is necessary to get a blood test done to check the thyroid.
7. Avoid taking over-the-counter medicines
We often take some over-the-counter medicines (medicines that do not require a prescription) in case of mild fever or other illness. These medicines are sometimes unsafe for us and our children. One should avoid taking such medicines.
