How to clean drinking water with alum?

Cleaning drinking water with alum is the easiest. If the water is clear in appearance and it is only to be filtered, then you can just rotate a small piece of alum in the gundi or matka water 5-7 times. There is no need to put alum in it.

Due to this, the dirt accumulated in the water will automatically settle down and the water present above will be usable.

How do you clean soil-filled water with alum?

  • Muddy water contains soil as well as many polluted particles. There are many such particles in it, which can put you at risk of diseases by consuming them like this. This type of water is available in many places during the summer season.
  • Filter the soil water first so that the large particles present in it are removed. After this, you turn alum in it and after that leave it like this for 6-7 hours. When the mud and dirt settle down, then filter it again.
  • Even after this, the soil water will not be fully usable. To make it drinkable, you have to kill the bacteria. For this, you have to take a bleaching powder solution. For every 1 litre of water, you add 2 drops of bleach. There will be no need for more than this. It will be easily available at grocery stores or online stores. After this, you leave the water like this for 30 minutes. After this, you can use it for drinking. This method can be used to harness rainwater in drought-prone areas.
  • Use bleaching solution very carefully. It should not come in contact with skin or clothing.

Use of alum powder

If you do not have the solid form of alum, you can also use alum powder. However, the solid form will be convenient and safe. Use alum powder very little like a pinch in a litre of water. If you have added too much powder, use that water for mouthwash or similar external use instead of drinking it.

You can tie the solid form of alum with a rope and leave it in drinking water for some time. Leave it for 10-15 minutes, but after half an hour of removing it, filter the water and use it. This will remove all the dirt from the water.
