How is foundation applied? There is no science in this, but if you are applying it wrongly, then your whole look looks bad. The aim of applying this is that you get a flawless and glowing base. However, even after several attempts, the makeup ends up looking cakey.

Many times this makes the face look completely white, so you must know the skills of applying foundation. To simplify the process of applying foundation, we have come up with techniques that will help you achieve a natural finish.

Step 1: Cleanse the face

Before doing makeup in the morning, keep one thing in mind your face should be well-cleaned. Any kind of dirt left before applying the foundation is neither good for the health of the skin nor for the makeup. Wash your face properly even before sleeping at night. This reduces the need to clean the face again in the morning. Keep in mind that your skin should be oil-free.

Step 2: Prep the skin first

One of the reasons foundation can look flaky or cakey is that you neglect skin prep. After cleansing, it is most important to massage the skin with a moisturizer. Heavy matte foundation can also give you a soft and natural look, but your skin must be moisturized and hydrated.

Step 3: Choose and apply the right foundation

Foundation in the wrong shade won't look cakey, but it can make your tone look too dull or too bright. Buy a foundation that's creamy, medium-coverage, and matches your skin type and complexion. After this, dab on your skin with a brush taking 2 pumps of foundation in the palm. Start at the centre of your face and blend outwards.

Step 4: Blend Foundation

To blend the foundation, lightly dampen a sponge and then dab it into the skin to blend. Never smudge or swipe the foundation. Use the tip of a sponge when applying foundation around your nose and eyes.

Step 5: Get full coverage on the face with concealer

Apply concealer to hide blemishes, acne scars or redness and for full coverage. After applying foundation, cover those spots by taking a concealer on your ring finger and then blend it with the help of a sponge.

Step 6: Apply powder to keep the foundation intact

If you want that your foundation day not melt, then do not forget to apply translucent powder over it. Apply translucent powder, especially on your T-zone, as it prevents the skin from getting oily. To apply powder on the T-zone, take a powder brush and dip it in powder. Tap off Access Powder and apply using a circular motion on your forehead, nose, and chin.

Important tips for applying foundation-

You have come to know how to apply foundation, but apart from this it is necessary to take care of some things-

  • If you are applying liquid, cream and gel foundation, then you must use a beauty sponge. With this, the foundation is well absorbed on the skin.
  • If you have oily or acne-prone skin, choose a lightweight oil-free formula. If you have dry skin, you should try an oil-rich foundation.
  • To add a subtle glow to your face, apply a liquid illuminator mixed with foundation. You won't need a highlighter.
  • Choose the right shade foundation for you. To choose the right shade, try applying the foundation on the jawline or cheek instead of the hand.
