Many times you must have heard or seen news of a dead body or corpse floating on water. During the Corona period, such scenes were seen in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

So this question must have come to your mind that when a dead body can float on water, then why can't a person float on water when he is alive. Let's know.

Actually this is not a miracle but there is science behind it too. Any object that floats on water depends on its density. Apart from this, it also depends on how much water that object removes from its sides to stay on the water. The thing which has more density will sink in water. As long as a person is alive, the density of his body is more than water. When a person drowns in water, his lungs get filled with water. Due to which he dies.

In the same way, when a person dies, the body does not start coming upwards but goes down to the very bottom of the water surface.

According to the principle established by scientist Archimedes, an object sinks in water when it fails to displace water equal to its weight. If the weight of water displaced by the object is less than the weight of the object, it will float on the water.

Why does the body float after death

When a person dies, gas starts being produced inside him, due to which his body starts swelling in water. Due to which the volume of the body increases and the density decreases. This is why the dead body floats in water.

Which gases are formed in a dead body
When a person dies, the immune system of the body stops working. Bacteria in the dead body start destroying his cells and tissues. Due to which many gases like methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and hydrogen are formed. Due to this the body starts floating upwards in the water.
