The risk of heart disease is seen to be increasing rapidly globally. Especially after the Corona epidemic, this problem has emerged as a big danger, so now young people are also falling prey to sudden heart attacks. Health experts are attributing many factors to the rising heart diseases, in which lifestyle disturbances and food-related problems are prominent.
Studies were done to know the risk of age-based heart disease problems have found that the risk of problems like serious heart disease and heart attack has increased significantly in the GEN-Z group people.
All people need to understand what is this GEN-Z group and why they are at higher risk of serious heart diseases. The GEN-Z group refers to people born between 1997 and 2012. That is, if a person is born in 1997, then in 2023 his age will be 26 years. This means that the risk of heart disease is seen increasing rapidly in young adults. Let us understand the reasons and risks from the experts.
Why is the problem of heart disease increasing?
We got in touch with Dr. Narottam M. Sharma, Senior Cardiologist, Pune to understand why the risk of heart disease is increasing at a young age, and what could be the major risk factors for it.
Health experts say cases of heart disease are increasing rapidly among young people. As far as the GEN-Z group is concerned, an increase in cardiovascular problems is a serious indicator. Two reasons are generally believed to be responsible for this.
First- the risk has increased due to obesity or overweight
The problem of obesity or high BMI in childhood and adolescence is not only heart disease but can also cause atherosclerotic processes, blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, and type-2 diabetes. Although cases of a heart attack in teenage or youth have been very rare earlier, now its risk is being seen more.
Excess weight can cause fatty deposits to build up in your arteries (the blood vessels that carry blood to your organs). Due to this, it becomes difficult for blood to reach the heart, due to which there can be a risk of heart disease.
Second- The problem of blood pressure is increasing at an early age.
The problem of blood pressure in youth and adults is also considered to be related to obesity and lifestyle defects. Elevated blood pressure poses the same risk to heart health in young people as it does in adults and the elderly. High blood pressure can reduce the elasticity of the arteries, which blocks the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart and can lead to heart diseases.
Teenage and youth should take special care
Dr. Narottam says all people should continue to take preventive measures against heart disease. Since its danger is now being seen even in young people, there is a need to pay serious attention to heart health right from childhood. For this, it is most important that you reduce obesity.
Physical inactivity not only increases obesity, but also increases the risk of heart disease, so we all must pay serious attention to lifestyle diet, and physical activity. It is very important to prevent heart disease.
