If we look at the data of the last few years, it is known that the cases of sudden heart attacks have increased rapidly in many parts of the country. You must have heard about heart attacks and deaths caused by them while dancing on DJ, enjoying parties and working in the office. In the last week, two such cases of sudden heart attack have once again increased the fear among the people.
On May 31, a retired soldier died of a heart attack during an event in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, on June 3, a young man suddenly fell and died while playing cricket in the Mira Road area of Mumbai. Cardiac arrest is being considered the reason for death, although it has not been confirmed yet. Similarly, in January, a person died of a heart attack while playing on the field in Noida.
The increasing cases of heart attack among the youth, especially those with good fitness, have raised many questions. Is the COVID-19 vaccine responsible for these incidents or something else? Why are heart attack cases increasing? Let's understand this from the doctor.
Young people have been victims of heart attack
There is a lot of discussion on social media about the increasing cases of heart attacks. Many users write, "This risk has increased in the youth due to Covid vaccination, such cases are being seen more in those who have taken the vaccine."
Is this happening due to the Covid vaccine or is there any other reason for this? To understand this, we spoke to Dr Niranjan Hiremath, cardiologist and surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi.
Why are heart attack cases increasing in young and healthy people?
Dr. Niranjan says cases of heart attack and cardiac arrest can happen in a person of any age. The death of the retired soldier may have been due to a heart attack first and then cardiac arrest. Similarly, cases of sudden cardiac arrest have also been seen more in the youth. Young people who already have problems related to heart disease may be at higher risk of cardiac arrest.
It is important to know here that heart attack and cardiac arrest are two different problems. Heart attack can occur due to increased blockage in the coronary arteries or its blockage due to any reason. In this, the patient's life can be saved with the help of immediate CPR and other measures. However, cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops pumping blood, it is considered more fatal.
Has the risk increased due to vaccination?
The increasing cases of heart attack-cardiac arrest have raised questions about the Kovid vaccine. Recently the vaccine manufacturer AstraZeneca admitted that in rare situations, there may be a risk of blood clots and heart attack due to the vaccine.
Dr Niranjan says it is baseless that heart attacks are increasing due to vaccines. Studies have also clarified that it can have side effects immediately after taking the vaccine, although such cases are also rare. After such a long time its risks are not seen.
Life can be saved by immediate CPR
Dr Niranjan says that in case of a heart attack, if the patient gets emergency medical treatment by giving CPR immediately, then life can be saved. However, in 90 percent of the cases of cardiac arrest, there is no time for CPR or other measures.
CPR can be an effective method in case of heart disease. Everyone needs to know about this. If a person is having symptoms of a heart attack like chest pain, stiffness, pain in the shoulder-arm neck-jaw, burning sensation in the chest, or dizziness, then immediately take him for CPR and emergency medical treatment.
