If you also drink three to four cups of coffee throughout the day while sitting in the office, then be careful now. Will this habit of yours prove fatal? Actually, in a recent study, a team of scientists warned people about the serious side effects of some beverages. Researchers said people who consume more carbonated beverages like cold drinks or soda, packed fruit juice, or coffee may have a higher risk of stroke. Stroke is considered one of the major causes of death worldwide.
According to research published in the Journal of Stroke, drinking more than four cups of coffee a day increases the risk of stroke by 37%. Continuous consumption of carbonated beverages increases the risk of stroke by 22% and packed fruit juice by 37%.
If you also often consume these beverages, then be careful.
Some beverages increase the risk of stroke.
Researchers conducted a study to understand how eating habits affect health.
Professor of clinical epidemiology at the University of Galway, Ireland, Andrew Smith says, that as a doctor and a person who researches the risk of stroke, I advise all people to minimize the consumption of fizzy drinks and packed juices. In our study, researchers found that drinking one carbonated beverage per day can increase your risk of stroke by 22%. The risk of stroke due to drinking packed juice has been seen most in women.
Why are packed juices harmful?
The fruit-packed juices available in the market contain high amounts of added sugar and preservatives, which is why they are dangerous. These elements also reduce the benefits of the fruits present in the packed juice. Professor Andrew Smith says, if you want to drink juice, always take fresh fruit juice, not packed.
Similarly, too much coffee is also harmful. Drinking three to four cups of coffee daily can increase your risks.
Too much coffee is also not good.
Another study on beverages has also suggested ways to reduce the risk of stroke. Health experts say that drinking tea instead of coffee-packed juice can be a good option. Consumption of tea can reduce the risk of stroke by 27% to 29%, although adding milk to tea reduces these benefits.
Drinking three to four cups of black tea or green tea a day can be considered good. A 29% reduction in the risk of stroke has been observed in those who drink black tea. Similarly, drinking three to four cups of green tea a day can reduce the risk of stroke by 27%.
A warning has been given earlier also regarding packed juice.
These studies are based on observation. However, in many studies before this, caution has been given about the side effects of drinking packed juice. In the US, a test of 45 types of packed juices found that many of these had very high levels of lead. These metals can cause neurodevelopmental problems in children. Apart from this, packed juices also contain high amounts of added sugar, which can increase the risk of type-2 diabetes and chronic diseases.
