Madhubani Saree

The folk art of Madhubani of Bihar has been called Madhubani Art. Mythology is mentioned in this art. By the way, in Madhubani, this art is done on the walls of the house. A special time is also fixed for doing this art. In fact, in earlier times, when someone got married in the house, the women of the house used to draw pictures of Goddess Sita and Shri Ram on the walls of the house while singing folk songs.

These pictures are now engraved on sarees instead of walls. This Kala is very old and depicts the story of the marriage of Ram-Sita. This saree is given to the bride by the Pihar and she wears it in her in-laws' house.

Baluchari Saree

The history of the Baluchari saree in India is also very old and it is also associated with Hinduism. Story reading is done in this saree. This saree was made in Baluchar village of Murshidabad, Bengal, hence it was named Baluchari. Baluchari was earlier inhabited by artisans who used to make sarees through special brocade weaving and the pallu of the saree had stories of Mughal kings. But slowly when these artisans came and settled in Vishnupur, then in this sari the stories of the deities inscribed on the walls and pillars of the temples of Vishnupur started. From then till now you will find Hindu religious stories on the pallu of Baluchari sarees.

BawanBooti Saree

BawanBooti saree is also a famous saree made in Nalanda, Bihar. Its history is also linked to Lord Gautam Buddha. This saree is made with 52 identical herbs and all the herbs are based on the 8 sacred symbols of Buddhism. All these symbols describe the beauty of the universe. This saree is made of cotton and is very comfortable to wear.

Venkatagiri Sarees

Venkatagiri sarees are being made since 1700 years ago in Venkatagiri, Andhra Pradesh. This saree is made of cotton and is woven in the Jamdani style. It is believed that even deities used to wear the Venkatagiri saree. Venkatagiri is also famous for the love story of Srinivasa, an avatar of Sri Krishna, and Padmavati said to be an avatar of Sri Lakshmi. In earlier times, this saree was made only for the royal family and it was offered to the gods and goddesses in temples, but now common people can also wear this saree.

Kasavu Saree

The Kasavu saree is considered very auspicious in Kerala. It is worn by the women of the Malayali community on both good and bad occasions. Especially Malayalam women wear this saree during marriage rituals. It is also called KasavuMundu. It comes in two pieces. The cream-coloured cotton fabric has a golden zari border which adds to the elegance of this saree.
