How healthy our body will be depends a lot on our lifestyle and food habits. Health experts say, due to the wrong lifestyle habits, the risk of many types of serious diseases is increasing with time. Some of our habits can be carcinogenic and even fatal, for which all people need to be careful. The researchers found that smoking is one such bad habit that has been found to have several serious health hazards.
Health experts say, with every puff of smoke poison is going into our body, unfortunately, most of people continue this habit despite knowing its risks. The Government of Canada has taken a big initiative to warn people about its side effects. Here, along with the cigarette packet, it has been decided to make people aware by printing the ill effects of it on every cigarette.
It will be written on the packet of cigarettes – every puff is a cancer factor, about which all people should be alert.
A warning will be printed on the cigarette
Caroline Bennett, who was the Minister of Mental Health in the Government of Canada, says that 48,000 Canadians are dying every year due to tobacco consumption. We have decided to label each cigarette with health warning messages, hoping that this effort will help raise awareness among people about the ill effects of each cigarette. The move is the latest in a series of measures to curb smoking.
The danger of smoking in India
In the context of India, smoking has been a major health risk here too. The practice of beedis in rural areas along with puffed cigarettes is known to increase a number of health risks. According to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey India 2016-17 report, around 267 million adults (15 years and above) use tobacco in India.
In India, tobacco is used in the form of khaini, gutkha, tobacco, and zarda more than smoking, chewing tobacco is one of the major risk factors for oral cancer.
Warning on bidi packets
Medical reports suggest that bidis are more prevalent in India than cigarettes and unfortunately the required warnings on its packets are also lacking. Bidi is a combustible tobacco product. Bidi smoke contains three to five times more nicotine than regular cigarettes, leading to the risk of nicotine addiction. Bidi smoking increases the risk of oral cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, and esophageal cancer.
Need for special campaign and awareness
Health experts say people should be made aware of the ill effects of smoking and tobacco products on the body. The risk of cancer and death due to tobacco products are increasing every year. Other countries should also make efforts like the Canadian government, so that the consumption of tobacco products can be banned. Tobacco in any form can be harmful to the body.
