In the Hindu religion, rivers have been described as mothers. This is why the worship of holy rivers in India has special importance and benefits.
Although many rivers are mentioned in Hindu religious texts, Mother Yamuna and Mother Ganga have the highest place. The history of these rivers is also the oldest.
However, when Yamuna and Ganga had not arrived on earth, a river used to flow earlier which is also considered to be the first river of India.
Let us know in detail about this river, the curse associated with it, its story and its importance in the Hindu religion from astrology expert Dr. Radhakant Vats.
- Mother Ganga came to earth from heaven after being pleased with the harsh penance of Bhagiratha, but there is evidence of the existence of a river in India even before Ganga.
- According to this evidence, before the Ganga, the Saraswatiriver flowed on earth. River Saraswati emerged from the lotus of Mother Saraswati and came down to earth.
- In the Vedas, the Saraswati River is considered to be the form and goddess form of Mother Saraswati. However, later the Saraswati river gradually disappeared.
- It is believed that a curse was behind the disappearance of the Saraswati River. The one who cursed the Saraswatiriver was none other than Maharishi Durvasa.
- The war of Mahabharata was fought on the banks of river Saraswati. The blood of the warriors that came out of this fierce battle was mixed in the Saraswati River.
- Once when sage Durvasa reached the banks of river Saraswati to worship, he became angry after seeing blood in the river because his worship had been interrupted.
- Then he cursed the Saraswatiriver to disappear. In the Puranas, it is believed that the Saraswati river is still flowing but under the ground.
- Evidence of the Saraswatiriver flowing under the earth has been found in many researches. It is written in the Puranas that the Saraswatiriver will be seen again when Kalki is incarnated.
