Pitru Paksha, also known as Shraddha, is an important period in the Hindu lunar calendar dedicated to honoring one's ancestors. According to Drik Panchang, this year Pitru Paksha will be celebrated from 29 September to 14 October. During these 15 days, Hindus pay respect to the departed souls and seek blessings for their well-being in the next life. What to do:
Perform Shraddha Karma: The primary objective of Pitru Paksha is to perform Shraddha Karma. Offer Pinda (rice balls) and water to your ancestors while reciting puja and mantras.
Select auspicious days: Some days during Pitru Paksha are considered more auspicious to perform these rituals, such as Mahalaya Amavasya. Plan your main Shraddha ceremonies during these days for maximum spiritual benefits.
Donation: Make charitable donations to the needy, including food, clothes, and money in the name of your ancestors. It is believed that by this act they get virtue in the next world.
Feeding the hungry: Feeding the Brahmins, the elderly, and the less fortunate during this time is considered extremely virtuous. It is a way of serving one's ancestors and earning their blessings.
Offering: Offer water to your ancestors by pouring water into a vessel and chanting their names and lineage. This is a symbolic way of providing nourishment to their soul.

What not to do:
Avoid non-vegetarian food: Avoid consuming non-vegetarian food and alcohol during this period. A completely vegetarian diet is preferred as it is considered purifying.
Limit celebrations: Try to keep celebrations and celebrations to a minimum during Pitru Paksha. It is a sacred period for spiritual contemplation.
Avoiding new ventures: Avoid starting new ventures, purchasing property, or taking major life decisions during Pitru Paksha. It is believed that it brings inauspicious energy.
Respect the mourning period: If you are in mourning for a deceased family member, continue to observe the mourning period and do not participate in the Shraddha ritual until it is completed.
