Many people have to face many types of problems during the winter season. Among these, Piles are also a problem that can trouble you in the winter season, it is also called Hemorrhoids. The risk of constipation increases in winter and when dehydration becomes dominant during this period, it can cause pileus, after which bleeding occurs during bowel movements. Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Saggu, Director (Minimal Access, GI and Bariatric Surgery), CK Birla Hospital, has told us what steps we should take to avoid piles in the winter season.
What to do to avoid piles in winters
1. Keep drinking water
During the winter season, we feel less intense thirst, due to which we drink less water, and this condition increases constipation. The problem of dehydration increases in the body due to which the stool becomes hard, in such a situation there are difficulties in bowel movement which promotes piles. To avoid this, you should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
2. Eat high fiber foods
To maintain better bowel movement, it is important to eat things that have high amounts of fiber, like fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, pulses, etc. This will provide relief from constipation and also reduce pain. Some people like to eat heavy and processed meals in winter, but you should avoid it at all costs.
3. Take a bath with lukewarm water
Bathing with lukewarm water improves bowel movement, which helps in eliminating problems related to piles. The heat of the water reduces the stress which makes it easier to pass stool as the anal muscles get relaxed. This is the reason why most health experts recommend warm baths.
4. Do exercise
Exercising regularly is good for overall health, and it can also prove helpful in preventing constipation and piles. When you increase physical activity, stomach problems are reduced because it strengthens the pelvic muscles, which promotes bowel movement.
