Know the rules
People who drink keep liquor in their homes. In such a situation, it becomes important to know what are the rules regarding liquor storage. First of all, know that there is no rule regarding drinking alcohol, that is, any person can consume any amount of alcohol in India.
But on the contrary, there is a rule regarding keeping liquor in the house. Therefore, any person can store liquor in his house only as per the prescribed rules. Although the Central Government in the country has not made any rules regarding this, the states have their own rules.
These are the rules for the states
The rules made by the Excise Department regarding liquor storage are different for all the states. This is because there is no guideline from the Government of India, whereas the Excise Department of every state has decided its policy.
Where in Delhi you can keep 18 liters of liquor in your house and if you keep more than this, it will be considered illegal.
Whereas, in Uttar Pradesh, you can store only up to 6 liters of liquor in your house. To keep more than this, you have to get a license from the government and also have to pay Rs 12,000 every year. Similarly, rules have been made by the Excise Department for other states.
